Carly Knight

about

I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at New York University, and I work on topics in economic sociology, cultural sociology, and social theory. I have particular interests in language and moral discourse. I am currently working on one large-scale project on the history of corporate personhood and the use of metaphor in legitimating corporate capitalism.

I have several additional projects that use computational text analysis to investigate the cultural schemas that corporations and individuals used to make sense of market transitions. Recently, I’ve developed an interest in the sociology of finance and the history of asset bubbles.

Prior to NYU, I completed my PhD in sociology at Harvard, and I received my bachelor’s in economics and political science from Duke University.

I am a co-organizer of NYU’s Sociology of Culture Workshop.
