Guidelines for Letters of Recommendation:
How to ask for a letter:
1. If you are asking me for a letter for the first time, please send your request at least four weeks before the deadline.
2. In your request, please list all schools/programs/etc to which you are applying, along with their deadlines. Your email should include your full application materials (including your CV, research statement, transcript, writing sample etc). Please include these items as attachments and not as a link to a Google Drive folder.
3. If I have not submitted the recommendation letters the week the application is due, please send me an email to remind me (please re-attach all application materials).
Note for undergraduate students requesting a letter:
If you took a large lecture class with me, and I didn’t get to know you well, it will likely be difficult for me to write you a strong letter. In this case, you may want to email your TA first.
Also note that it if you got less than an A- in my class, it will be difficult for me to write you a strong letter. I will tell you if I think I cannot write you a strong recommendation letter.
